Ceramic & porcelain are not the same product

Many people are under the impression that ceramic & porcelain tiles are the same material. It’s true that they are a lot alike in many ways. However, they have some important differences that set them apart from one another.

Porcelain tile is the "better" of the two in that it is made with only the highest quality clay available. Kiln-dried to perfection, these pieces are often left with their natural colorations as their distinguishing feature. Since it is an all-natural material, you can expect that no two pieces are going to be exactly the same. This is why some people handpick each tile to be used in their home or business.

Ceramic tile is also constructed with high-quality clay, but additional materials are added in that make it look somewhat different. Porcelain features the same color throughout the entirety of the tile, but ceramic, if chipped, is colored differently on the inside, making chips and breaks much more apparent should they happen. For this reason, ceramic tile is usually covered with glazes in a variety of bright and outstanding colors. These are the perfect pieces for mosaics and intricate designs.

When choosing ceramic & porcelain, it’s important to discuss your specific needs with your flooring associate. They’ll be able to make sure you get the perfect product for your specific needs.
